Customs & Excise Compliance Specialist

A global drinks company with worldwide brands is currently recruiting for a Customs & Excise Specialist. This is a unique position, the role will ensure customs & excise (C&E) requirements for the company are met and this position will be the contact for all daily matters of customs & trade import compliance for all imported materials as well as export compliance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Single point of contact on all customs and trade compliance matters
  • To introduce, agree and manage inward and outward processing duty relief procedures as well as a detailed customs declaration process
  • Review shipping documentation and customs invoices for accuracy
  • Review and provide accurate commodity code/taric information and expertise
  • Design and implement full documentation audit program with internal teams/approved brokers
  • Monitor Customs Community Directives and regulations and implement as needed
  • Interface with C&E/Government authorities as required
  • Support documentary/regulation changes which may impact execution of supply chain
  • Coordinate and advise on contract terms and conditions, Incoterms and analysis of trade lanes
  • Ensure all procedure documentation is written & fully updated
  • Monitoring of free trade declarations and assisting with reviewing new countries/products to be shipped under free trade agreements (FTA)
  • Manage allocations and comprehensive bonds/licences across all sites
  • Maintain AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) status and to coordinate AEO revenue audits
  • Monitor and supply information on new product introduction to Customs & Excise
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders during government budget periods for possible excise increase consequences
  • Project manager for any IT developments for Revenue/Excise enhancements
  • Monitor and provide detailed input to Brexit planning groups
  • Reconcile warrants issued to Revenue C&E monthly
  • Provide updates to all relevant departments across the business and other relevant stakeholders, as required

Key Skills and Experience required:

  • Business/International Trade Degree or suitable qualification
  • Min. 5 years’ experience in Customs and Trade Function within large multinational, consultancy or brokerage environment with an understanding of fundamental C&T concepts (classification, valuation, preference, origin)
  • A comprehensive knowledge of and good understanding of custom regulations auditing skills
  • Ability to collate, analyse and distribute complex information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to present information in a clear and logical way
  • Strong IT skills along with good numeracy skills, with the ability to interpret accounts and make calculations
  • Ability to work accurately, pay close attention to detail and notice inconsistencies
