Quality Manager (Infant Formula/Dairy Powders)

Quorum Search partners have been retained by an International Food Company to source a highly experienced Quality Manager for a key leadership role, within the organisation. This role will be responsible for all food safety, regulatory compliance, new product introduction and quality assurance system leadership functions. The Quality Manger will interface with regulatory authorities as required and support, advise and direct as necessary all site and company quality and food safety compliance needs.

Based in the North East, the role will report into the General Manager and will also liaise on a regular basis with internal international company colleagues.

As the client will be supplying product internationally, with particular focus on China, experience and knowledge of Chinese regulations are a distinct advantage.

Location: Louth, Cavan, Monaghan 


Responsible for directing and managing all quality and food safety functions at production facility and warehouse.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with Chinese, Irish, EU and Codex regulations for all quality systems
  • Shall achieve excellence sanitation and environmental cleanliness in clean room and high care environments
  • Lead and manage regulatory and 3rd party audits and internal audits
  • Work closely with site and company management team, regulatory authorities and all stakeholders giving optimum support
  • Develop and manage quality & food safety related training and as required conduct Food Safety and product quality related Training for staff, visitors and contractors
  • Implement product quality and HACCP training, environmental monitoring program, change control system, good documentation practice, validation program and all quality system requirements.
  • Interface with all regulatory agencies
  • Issue, review and maintain product specifications, certificates of analysis, and all other QA documents.
  • Manage the maintenance of product batch files
  • Ensure that relevant physical, chemical, and microbiological tests on raw material as per specifications are completed to required standards
  • Oversee all plant HACCP, pre-requisite quality programs, and all quality/food safety related programs to meet regulatory and food safety requirements
  • Ensure all sanitation and safety guidelines are being met
  • Implement a CAPA program and ensure plant audit corrective action plans are implemented in an efficient & timely manner
  • Generate reports & conduct Management Reviews addressing QA activities, trends, performance, customer feedback and expenditures as well as communicate findings and action plans to the site personnel, management and senior management
  • Quality aspects of new product realization to include liaison with formulation team, validation processes & studies through to validation of finished product to meet Chinese and Irish compliance and food safety regulations
  • Other projects and responsibilities as may be defined

Person Profile:

  • Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Pharmaceuticals or related discipline required
  • Experience in implementing Irish and EU Food Safety and compliance regulations
  • Experience working in Infant Formula/ Dairy Powders is essential
  • Previous experience in quality assurance/food safety/technical function within a similar food processing environment is essential
  • Must have experience in food safety, HACCP, cGMP in a high care environment
  • Must be able to read, interpret & implement policies and regulations and become an authority on Chinese and Irish Food Safety and Compliance related regulations
  • Knowledge and experience implementing quality Systems: FSSC ISO 22000 or other GFSI standard, validation, CAPA, environmental monitoring, supplier controls change control, etc.
  • Proven manager; capable of coaching and developing a team
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain excellent food safety programs
  • Strong ability to achieve excellence sanitation and environmental cleanliness in a clean room environment with high care areas
  • Strong computer application skills (Word, Power Point Outlook, Excel)
  • Strong communication skills and good personality
