Technical Manager - Wexford

I have a fantastic new opportunity for an experienced Technical Manager to join a growing food producer in Wexford. The preferred candidate will be responsible for Technical, Quality and New Product Development within the business. 

This role will suit a candidate with excellent commercial acumen and a strategic mindset. They will have proven people management skills, be influential and drive high standards of quality and innovation. 

Reporting to: Managing Director

Direct reports: Quality Manager & New Product Development Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Management of the Technical area within the business
  • Participation in the senior management team
  • Ensuring product quality is of the highest standard 
  • Managing the Quality Control team in the implementation and continuous improvement of all elements of the Quality System
  • Managing Audits – customer, third party and supplier, and responsibility for all accreditations within the business
  • Managing the New Product Development and R&D functions within the business to deliver innovation and differentiation to customers
  • Managing the technical element of supplier relationships
  • Attending sales meetings on occasion with customers and prospects
  • Leading the technical component of new customer acquisition and new product listings
  • Creating internal training programs and providing training for upskilling operational team and quality control team
  • Management of New Product Development function in the business
  • Contribution to the strategic planning group within the business
  • Supporting commercial activity with technical product specifications and other work related to securing new listings

Skills, qualifications & experience required:

  • Food Science degree or similar
  • A track record of continuing education and training
  • Senior technical experience in the food industry (more than 8 years)
  • Experience of the BRC standards and in leading customer and third-party audits essential
  • Experience of New Product Development and a driver of innovation 
  • Highly developed managerial and interpersonal skills with strong leadership abilities
  • Experienced in design, implementation, and maintenance of quality control systems
  • Understanding of advanced methods and systems of quality control in food production
  • Passion for food and food quality 
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively lead a team by creating buy-in
  • Training employees in advanced principles of quality control in food production to an operational team
