Operations Manager

The Role:

This person will be responsible for the daily site operations covering shipping, product storage, maintenance, engineering, loading, security and administration activities. You will be responsible for the line management of the core site team and contractors, with a special focus on health and safety compliance

This is a responsible and varied role which would suit someone who wishes to make a strong impact and progress in their career.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for Health & Safety issues to ensure legal and company standards compliance for activities under direct control. Investigate all incidents to develop root cause recommendations for timely follow up
  • Manage day-to-day operational challenges
  • Manage planned maintenance, inspection and audit activities in line with requirements and take ownership for prioritization of corrective actions required
  • Control budget for ongoing operational expenditure and capital investment
  • Lead site team to ensure a productive, co-operative work atmosphere is maintained and promoted
  • Manage staffing levels to ensure effective resource management
  • Develop open and learning safety culture on site through engagement with other teams (eg Distribution & Vehicle Maintenance) and chairing of area safety committee, driving continuous improvement
  • Represent the company in the area, commercial neighbours, external state agencies (fire service, AGS etc) and local community as required
  • Liaise with Supply Manager on inbound supplies to co-ordinate activities
  • Support resolution of infrequent out of hours issues

Key Skills and Experience needed:

  • Substantial technical (preferably mechanical or similar) qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant operations management experience, covering many aspects of production, maintenance, engineering and safety management, with some exposure to budgets, project management, line management, unionised environments, external regulators etc.
  • Good understanding of safety reports, process safety concepts, incident investigation techniques, permit to work systems, engineering management of change, risk assessment requirements and development of work instructions
  • Results-orientation with a desire for continuous improvement
  • People Management experience in a unionized environment
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Sound knowledge and experience in using IT systems
  • LEAN 6 Sigma Green Belt, project management and NEBOSH certificate all advantageous
