Assistant Technical Manager

A hugely successful Global Food Business based in Dublin West is seeking an Assistant Technical Manager to join the business on a maternity cover contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work with this market-leading Irish business and to gain exposure to a highly-regulated environment.

Reporting to the Group Technical Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading audits, implementing Technical standards and developing and progressing the Technical team.

Salary on offer is €40-45k depending on experience, with a performance-based bonus.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage and continuously develop the Technical team, provide ongoing training and performance appraisals
  • Promote a culture of problem solving, efficiency and professionalism
  • Drive continuous improvement through review & implementation of new legislation, codes of practice and industry standards
  • Conduct regular review of the Quality Management System in compliance with BRC
  • Ensure regular product assessments are completed in compliance with company standards and meet or exceed customer requirements as outlined in specifications
  • Implement the necessary systems & procedures to monitor, validate and ensure integrity, quality, consistency & compliance
  • Manage the Budget Control for the Technical Department
  • Be the HACCP team leader and Lead Auditor
  • Establish a continuous state of audit readiness onsite
  • Develop and maintain Supplier relationships, addressing KPI adherence, non-conformances & and emerging hazards
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the operation through the analysis of customer complaints, accreditation status, microbial monitoring performance, supplier appraisal etc.
  • Liaise with customers and enforcing authorities
  • Work collaboratively with various departments to develop and execute project plans, support Product Innovation teams

Education, skills & experience required:

  • 4 + years’ experience in manufacturing within the FMCG sector
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science preferred
  • Additional certifications advantageous
  • Quality Inspection, auditing, and testing experience
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and Food Standards i.e. BRC, GFSI, IFS, ISO
  • Strong People Management experience with the proven ability in developing high performing teams
  • Ability to effectively plan, schedule, execute and track complex projects
  • Effective communication and influencing abilities
  • Experience with cross functional project management
  • Customer-centric and strategic thinker
