Assistant Quality Manager

Europe’s fastest-growing food business is seeking an experienced Assistant Quality Manager to join their team. My client has recently invested €30 million in expanding its world-class facility in the Midlands, the business is expected to double in the next 3-4 years.

The Assistant Quality Manager will be responsible for ensuring the production site is audit ready 24/7. They will assist the QA Manager on implementing schedules for internal audits, traceability, calibration, product sampling and testing.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage and engage the Quality Assurance team through coaching, identifying training needs and involvement in projects; develop and manage a clear handover process, accountability and ownership for the QA Team between production shifts
  • Implement a product quality culture and ways of working with QA staff ensuring effective communication and handover between production shifts
  • Manage the audit ready process, ensuring GMP adherence, updating the QMS and conducting weekly audit ready meetings.
  • Provide consistent monitoring of product quality to agreed customer specification and Quality Attribute Specification (QAS)
  • Contribute effectively to the development and update of the HACCP and TACCP Plans
  • Ensure that all Quality KPIs for the production facility are being audited and communicated routinely.
  • Engage and challenge site teams (Operations, Engineering, Planning & Supply, Procurement, NPD) to deliver consistent product quality and resolve issues effectively in a timely manner
  • Assist with External Stakeholders during the absence of Quality Assurance Manager
  • Escalate unresolved or re-occurring issues to Senior Management or QA Manager providing a plan on required input, resource and timeframe
  • Manage the day to day customer complaint handling system, ensuring that all complaints are recorded, investigated and effectively handled, with actions appropriate to the seriousness of the complaint completed in a timely manner
  • Manage the calibration programme for equipment used to monitor CCPs, temperature and product checks linked to safety and legality

Skills, qualification and experience required:

  • Food science degree or similar qualification
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role in Quality Assurance
  • Working knowledge of BRC and Retailer Food Safety standards
  • Experience in managing and control of Quality systems including HACCP and QAS
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to train others
  • Ability to conduct audits
  • Ability to understand and interpret various specification formats, auditing templates, testing certificates and traceability documentation.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite
