An large global Food Business is currently recruiting for an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for its site in Co. Louth. The role will assist the business and offer practical advice on the measures which need to be undertaken to comply with the requirements for the health and safety of employees, contractors and visitors etc. As the business is accredited to ISO 50001, this person will take a lead role in driving and supporting this agenda across the business. The environmental aspect of the role ensures that business does not cause long-term critical depletion of natural resources, or lasting damage to species, habitats, biodiversity and the climate and has committed to Science Based Targets.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, monitor and review HSE strategies, policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices in line with company Safety Framework
  • Provide clear, consistent, relevant and timely health, safety and welfare advice, guidance and operational support
  • Promote a positive health, safety and environmental culture
  • Respond to any safety or environmental concerns raised
  • Liaise with the Technical & CSR Manager and any other 3rd Party on all matters relating to health, safety and environment
  • Manage and further develop the safety and energy management systems
  • Undertake audits and to carry out workplace inspections
  • Investigate and support managers in the investigation into circumstances or causes of accidents and take necessary steps to prevent reoccurrence
  • Analyse accident, incident and hazard reporting statistics and recommend required actions
  • Ensure clear communication of health, safety and environmental information throughout the company
  • Prepare health, safety & environmental reports and statistical performance data as required
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are compatible with current health and safety legislation
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all departments at all levels
  • Take an active role in any company projects or initiatives which will improve health and safety
  • Actively engage with the factory floor to achieve relevant legislative or company safety and environmental standards
  • Commit to resolving HSE issues through communication and practical means
  • Liaising with relevant authorities and bodies such as HSA, EPA etc as necessary
  • Ensure all contractors, third parties and visitors are compliant with HSE requirements of the site

Key Skills and Experience needed:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a relevant Health & Safety role
  • Minimum of Nebosh General Certificate in Health & Safety, ideally working towards Nebosh Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Some previous experience of operating within a large Group/global multi-site business
  • Previous experience/exposure in FMCG within the food industry desirable
  • Working knowledge and understanding of incident investigation (best practice)
  • Experience of managing and overseeing an Occupational Health
  • Experience with insurance and claims management
  • Interaction and liaising with HSE/Authorities, Fire etc.
  • Is innovative in their approach to H&S
  • Is able to travel
  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence at all levels within the business
