Technical Manager - Large Food Group

A large and very progressive multi site food business based in North Cork is looking for an ambitious Technical Manager. The role offers excellent opportunity within a large business yet ample autonomy and opportunity to work within a fast paced environment. The role will provide technical management and support on all technical issues relating to food safety and legality and to ensure compliance with the customer and legislative requirements providing support to the Site Technical Manager.

Responsibilities / KPI’s:

  • Lead the HACCP team and assist in the delivery of the HACCP and Food Safety Management Systems.
  • Assist the Site Technical Manager in understanding, delivering and maintaining the required standards within the business unit.
  • Support the Operations team on day to day activities, coach and trouble shoot activities for improvement.
  • Liaise and provide support to the customer and suppliers as required.
  • Liaise and provide support to DAFM as required ensuring all documentation and sampling requirements for the Business unit are achieved.
  • Lead site audits, customer visits, supplier visits, and visits from regulatory bodies. Coordinate non-conformance findings.
  • Undertake hygiene, GMP, fabrication, foreign body, glass audits, internal and external systems audits. Coordinate non-conformance findings.
  • Complete the program of assessment for mock recall, traceability, mass balances, reconciliations, labelling claims and all other requirements of the QMS system. Control QC Hold requirements, positive release and communicate all associated stock management requirements.
  • Review and implement Technical Systems, procedures and practices and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Challenge factory systems to ensure that full traceability is achieved for every batch of product.
  • Develop and review Technical related procedures and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Attendance, actions, review and improvement opportunities from RACI, EPD, Specification Review and Management, Pre-Production, First Production, Technical acceptance tests. Work with NPD teams and customers on new product introductions and trials.
  • Approve artworks, update and approve legal label information as required.
  • Manage, approve and issue product and raw material specifications, internal product specifications, customer specifications.
  • Manage QC team, working hours, holidays etc.
  • Monitor, track and challenge all costs and associated purchase orders.
  • Troubleshoot any Technical issues and assist all teams in delivery of the required standards and projects.
  • Support Site and Group Technical Managers in the implementation and improvement of procedures and processes to ensure required standards of work are met and adhered to.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement initiatives within the business.
  • Be familiar with the company’s Health and Safety Programme and carry it out effectively.

Education & Experience:

  • Food Science/Food Technology qualification or related would be a distinct advantage.
  • 4 + years' experience in the FMCG sector with knowledge and proficiency working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A strong technical background and knowledge of Industry Food Standards, i.e. GFSI (BRC, IFS, ISO) and Food Service and Retailer Codes of Practices.
  • Certifications an advantage including Internal Auditing, Lead Auditor, Train the Trainer, HACCP, TACCP
  • A passion for delivering results and the drive to exceed expectations.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, attention to detail.
  • The ability to work under pressure to achieve deadlines, display a high sense of urgency and speed of action.
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
