Maintenance Manager

Role Purpose:

The maintenance manager is responsible for leading and developing a Team of Maintenance Technicians in a highly automated 24/7 production and packing facility. Optimise operational efficiency through effective planned and predictive maintenance, effective problem solving and root cause analysis. Take ownership and accountability for agreed Key Performance Indicators and lead continuous improvement in all aspects of plant maintenance and utility operation

Role Responisbilities:

  • Build positive relationships with other departments, Site Management and Production team.
  • Work closely with the Food safety team to ensure that engineering work is completed in line with food safety guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with all functions including Health and Safety, Production, Food Safety & Quality, Technical Services, Planning, Finance, and HR.
  • Leading, coaching and development of reporting engineers to ensure capability to deliver current and future business objectives.
  • Adopt and encourage a “go and see” attitude when problems arise and engage with all appropriate stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement an effective Planned and Predictive maintenance system.
  • Ensure work scheduled in planned maintenance system is completed to agreed timescales and signed off on the system to ensure a comprehensive record is maintained for all plant and equipment.
  • Ensuring all statutory inspections - including portable appliance testing, mains testing and pressure vessels, electrical thermographic are managed and records are maintained in line with current legislation.
  • Ensure effective escalation processes are in place for engineering issues supported by effective decision trees to aid decision making.
  • Lead an effective culture of continuous improvement in all aspects of asset care, plant maintenance & utility operation.
  • Identify and lead improvement projects to improve up time, rate and capacity and support the elimination of various wastes through use of lean tools.
  • Introduce initiatives which will develop and improve asset care awareness and champion a high standard of quality in the engineering department at all times.
  • Drive and support a positive Health and Safety culture within the department where H&S is given equal priority with all other activities.
  • Maintain focus on workplace safety, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), and that control measures are identified through comprehensive risk assessment and COSHH assessment.

Qualifications and Training:

  • Qualified in a Mechanical or Electrical Discipline.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Trained in the use of lean tools and problem solving techniques.
  • Minimum 2nd class degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical / Electrical / Manufacturing Engineering related discipline.
  • Exposure to SAP PM.
  • Effective Management training.
  • 3 years recent and relevant experience of managing a team of Maintenance Technicians within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing a team and managing performance.
  • Experience in a food / dairy manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment an advantage.
  • Understands the significance of SOP’s.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of how safe working practices are applied and how a safe place of work (SPOW) can be enhanced through operator inclusivity.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing operations and processes.
  • IOSH qualification.
  • Detailed knowledge of production processes within a food / dairy production environment.
