Cost Accountant

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Cost Accountant to join a leading added value branded foods company and supplier to retailers in Ireland and the UK.


Full time, permanent position

Negotiable salary depending on experience


The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. 


The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Planning, Studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labour.
  • Analysing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost.
  • Analysing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Analysing audits of costs and preparing reports.
  • Making estimates of new and proposed product costs.
  • Maintaining Cost Accounting System.
  • Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close.
  • Reconciles finished goods inventories.
  • Work in special projects as required, in particular Lean Management Programme.
  • Analyse capital budgeting proposals.



  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA).
  • Previous experience in a similar Accounting role.
  • Advanced Excel User.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Adopt and embrace Lean thinking and principles in all aspects of the role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, management skills, strong work ethic, consensus gathering skills & organizational skills.
