Our client, a Leading Food Producer, is seeking a Head of Operations to join their business in Co. Monaghan.
The Head of Operations will lead the teams at the processing plant, to identify opportunities from a process point of view and to lead the delivery of improvement projects across the entire production facility.
They will soon be commencing construction on a new facility, so the Head of Operations will be integral to managing the migration to this exciting new facility.
In the role, you will report directly to the Managing Director but will have a very strong link with various other functions to coordinate Continuous Improvement activity across the site and be responsible for embedding this methodology on site.
Full-Time, Permanent Opportunity.

Key responsibilities:
- Lead all processing activities to ensure the plant operates effectively whilst achieving company financial goals.
- Leading and supporting the development of continuous improvement on the site to advance standards, processes and training development in the plant.
- Project Managing the implementation of Lean programmes throughout the plant with specific focus on production and planning.
- Coordinate all aspects of the plant supply chain from raw material sourcing, processing through to dispatch.
- Establish site goals and strategies and lead business to ensure operational efficiency, review performance indicators and direct action accordingly.
- Oversee the preparation of operational schedules and manufacturing activities to ensure that production and quality of products meet all specifications.
- Working with Farm, Sales and Technical on optimization of raw material specification requirements needed to fulfil sales forecasts and collaborate with relevant areas to ensure effective forward planning.
- Planning of manufacturing processes and methods to generate improved plant performance and workflow optimization and efficiency.
- Assure and support food safety and product quality initiatives for the ongoing production of safe high quality products.
- Guide Managers in the development of labour usage strategies to better utilize resources reacting to change in production demands and deadlines.
- Provide leadership to preventative maintenance teams and ensure plant environment and equipment are fit for purpose.
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships across the business to ensure appropriate alignment with business process projects.
- Utilising information generated currently or developed by the successful candidate to recommend, design, and propose improvement initiatives which are aligned to business goals (with a particular focus on waste reduction, cost reduction, productivity, value creation and yield improvement).
- Tracking progress of implementation and reporting monthly on the site performance KPIs, ensuring the site is on track and delivering expected results.
- Responsibility for the management of process/product waste and achievement of waste KPIs.
- Creating, planning, and managing projects in a timely and robust manner with concise detail reporting that can be supported with factual data ensuring collaboration with all key stakeholders.
- Coaching and mentoring our yellow belt and green belt candidates across the site to embrace or move to driving a lean / six sigma business.
- 5S auditing on a monthly basis and facilitating the meetings and sharing the results with the teams to implement sustainable improvements.
- Leading by example in everything you do, ensuring the company’s values are upheld in all areas of work.
Key Attributes & Requirements:
- To be successful in this role you will need experience of working in a food manufacturing production environment.
- Educated to degree level education or equivalent.
- Have proven problem solving experience and knowledge, preferably supported by certified process improvement methodology such as Six Sigma.
- Other essential attributes include project management, stakeholder management and excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt your communication style depending on the audience.
- Strong analytical skills would also be beneficial. Pragmatic in approach, you should be confident and experienced with working collaboratively to achieve business goals. You will also need to be comfortable in challenging the “status quo” in a constructive manner and use this to influence other functions in a positive manner.
