Quality Control Manager (12 month contract)

Our client is one of the largest Irish owned Fresh Produce and logistics company based in North Co. Dublin and they are currently recruiting for a Quality Control Manager on a specified purpose contract to cover maternity leave for approximate 12-month contract. 


You will be responsible for the management of the Quality Control team and the Quality Management System on site. You will ensure that products are produced to the highest level of quality and compliant with the specification of both the customer and relevant bodies. 


Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the Quality Management System on an daily basis.
  • Ensures food safety, integrity, legality and quality is maintained at all times.
  • Address all non-conformances in the Quality Management System on a timely basis.
  • Decisions on corrective actions, non-conforming products, process deviations, finished product release, document control and customer complaints.
  • Ensure that site HACCP is designed appropriately for the company’s’ products and procedures and is responsible for leading the HACCP Team.
  • Approving changes to the Quality Manuals, Specifications, Records & HACCP Plans.
  • Managing supplier approval and obtaining relevant documentation.
  • Is the main point of contact regarding product recalls.
  • Responsible for the Control of Suppliers, Goods In, Non-conforming Product and Returns.
  • Ensure that all necessary records are recorded and maintained each day.
  • Ensure that it is possible to trace the origin and treatment of all produce.
  • Carry out internal audits and is the main contact in third party audits in all matters relating to the Quality System e.g. Bord Bia, BRC etc.
  • Ensure the Quality team carries out all QC checks and reports any findings on a daily basis.
  • Ensuring measuring and monitoring equipment on site is calibrated and in working order.
  • Deals with customer complaints, completes root cause analysis, close out reports and liaises with customers on all quality and technical issues.
  • Liaising with external agencies on all quality and Food Safety matters.
  • Responsibility and authority for ensuring that the Quality System complies with the requirements of the BRC Food, BRC Storage & Distribution, Bord Bia, IOA and legislative standards.
  • Keep abreast of all legislation, product safety issues, scientific and technical developments, and industry codes of practice and make others aware as appropriate.
  • Responsible for implementing & monitoring allergen controls and obtaining pesticide residue checks from supplier.
  • Represent the company during third party and customer audits.
  • Ensure non-conformances are recorded, root cause analysis and acted upon promptly.
  • Ensuring monthly, quarterly and annual meetings are held as required.
  • Ensuring HACCP review and Risk Assessments are scheduled, actioned and items raised addressed and closed out.
  • Complete Customer and Supplier Questionnaires.
  • Liaise with customers in relation to queries, customer complaints.
  • Ensure hygiene audits are completed at defined intervals. Actively work to improve working practices.
  • Drive Quality improvements and support the ongoing development of the Quality Culture on site.
  • Participate in improvement projects as required.
  • Undertaking of other duties outlined by Managing Director or General Manager from time to time.
  • Understand and apply all legal, regulatory & food safety requirements to the business.
  • Ensure all production documentation is completed correctly.
  • Ensuring that full traceability exists on all products.

Key Requirements:

  • Third level qualification or Industry experience in the Food and Beverage Sector.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, BRC Food, BRC Storage & Distribution, Bord Bia SHAS, Organic requirements. 
  • Internal audit certification.
  • Good working knowledge of best practices & management of quality systems.
  • Experience operating within, and delivering on, the highest quality standards in the manufacturing sector.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team but to also use own initiative.
