Irish cheese to be promoted in Italy

Irish cheeses made from raw milk are being showcased at the Salone del Gusto artisan food fair in Turin this weekend. The five-day food event is expected to attract 180,000 visitors.

Bord Bia is promoting the Irish brands with members of the Irish Raw Milk Cheese Presidium. They include Béal Organic Cheese in Listowel; Cooleeney Farm in Thurles; Corleggy Cheese in Belturbet; Dingle Peninsula Cheese in Castlegregory; Durrus Cheese and Fermoy Natural Cheese, both in Cork; Glyde Farm Produce in Castlebellingham and Mount Callan in Ennistymon. According to Bord Bia, there is a growing interest in Italy in Ireland’s artisan products, particularly farmhouse cheeses, chocolates and artisan beers.

Irish food and drink exports to Italy were estimated at €368 million last year.
