Aldi Stores (Ireland) has opened a new store in Ardkeen, Waterford City. The new store has created 20 new jobs and brings great quality fresh Irish products and fantastic value to Waterford City. The new Ardkeen store is Aldi's fifth store in Co. Waterford. This brings the total number of Aldi stores in Ireland to 117. The first Aldi store in Ireland opened in November 1999.
To celebrate the opening of the new store, Aldi served up breakfast delights and tasty treats throughout the morning. All samples were prepared using Aldi products, many of which are sourced from Irish suppliers.
The day was filled with family fun and festivities, with Beat 102-103's Beat Fleet providing face painting, balloon modelling, music and games for the kids. Five lucky Aldi shoppers also scooped €100 each in Aldi shopping vouchers.
Speaking at the store opening, Donncha Buckley, Manager of Aldi's new Ardkeen store said, "We are delighted to open our new Ardkeen store and look forward to welcoming many new customers from the local area. Each Aldi store we have opened so far has been a fantastic success and we are looking forward to serving the local community."
Aldi remains committed to growing its Irish supply base and increasing the number of Irish products available. Since 2008 Aldi has almost doubled the number of Irish suppliers it works with, helping to maintain over 34,000 jobs across the Irish food industry. More than 50% of Aldi's supplier spend is with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers. All of Aldi's fresh meats, fresh poultry, eggs, bread, flour, and many of its teas, coffees, soft drinks, waters and snacks are provided by leading Irish suppliers.
Aldi has established solid roots in many of Ireland's local communities having developed longstanding partnerships with numerous Irish producers. Suppliers from the local area include Glen Fruits of Dungarvan, which supplies Aldi with fresh Irish strawberries and cheesemaker Eamonn Lonergan based in Knockanore, who produces Aldi's Specially Selected Oakwood Smoked Cheddar Cheese.
Aldi's Irish products have a strong track record of dominating national and international food awards. Aldi's products have won more awards in the last five years across the Great Taste, Blas na hÉireann and the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards than any other retailer in Ireland.
